Chapter 9: Moving Forward
Teenagerâs pleas for help had not fallen on deaf ears. The One True Lord was weaving together many strands. His plan is always incomparably beautiful, complex, and incomprehensible to anyone other than the Holy Three-in-One. The prayers of the saints were being heard, and the One True Lord was working in ways Teenager and his family couldnât possibly have known or understood.
Teenager continued to sit on the floor, wondering how long he had been in this tiny room. Was it hours? Days? Months? He had no idea. He had lost all sense of time.
Maybe, Teenager thought to himself, maybe Iâm outside of time. Brother and his friends told me these creatures are fallen angels. Maybe being on their ship puts me outside regular time.
Speculation about such matters helped Teenager occupy his time and keep his mind off the terrible images and possible outcome of his bad choice to come aboard the ship.
Despite the awful circumstances he found himself in, Teenager was not as frightened as he felt during his encounter with the captain. He was exhausted, sweaty, cold, hungry, and desperately thirsty. He was experiencing physical pain and discomfort far greater than anything he had ever known before in his short life.
Despite all that, he could feel somewhere deep down inside a feeling of inner strength he had never experienced. He knew that the feeling of strength was coming from somewhere outside himself and outside this ship, and it wasnât just because the captain wasnât in the room. Somehow he sensed this, but he couldnât be sure. Teenager was beginning to believe that the stories Brother and his friends told him were probably true. Brother said there was a group praying for him. Maybe the prayers were where the source of this new strength came from.
âGod,â Teenager said ever so quietly, âI believe Youâre there and You see me and know whatâs going on. I admit I messed up by coming on this ship. How do I get off? What can I do? Please, God, send someone who can help me. I donât know what to do.â
Tears began to well up in Teenagerâs eyes.
âI want to find the truth, but I donât know what the truth is. I believe what Brother told me. Brother said You are God and that You are good. I believe what Brother said, God; at least I think I believe. Iâm confused and seeking answers. Please, God, please send someone to help me understand and guide me.â After a few seconds, Teenager added, âAmen,â feeling rather sheepish that he didnât say that to begin with.
Somewhere deep inside Teenagerâs heart, in recesses known only to the One True Lord, the seed of faith that had been planted was beginning to open and send an upward shoot.

Mother was upset, to say the least, but she wasnât sure exactly why she was upset. She found herself driving around the neighborhood aimlessly. She had stormed out of the house because she couldnât stand to hear any more of what her son was saying.
